August 2016 | InVID now part of First Draft News
The resarch project InVID that Condat is part of together with five european partners has become a member of the non-profit Initiative First Draft News in late august this year.
First Draft News is an initiative created and supported by nine member organisations that make up the First Draft Coalition. The Coalition was established to raise awareness and standards in all aspects of social newsgathering and verification. Each organisation dedicates knowledge and time to produce regular case studies and resources for the site, in addition to collaborating on other relevant projects and events. As a member of the First Draft Coalition, Google News Lab provides financial assistance to develop and maintain First Draft News, support the creation of new content and coordinate other coalition led initiatives. As a non-profit initiative, First Draft News does not feature any advertising or sponsored content.
More Information on First Draft News:
The InVID project deals with the validation of user-generated content (UGC) from social media sources such as Twitter and Youtube. In the wake of the digital revolution and the increasing availability of mobile broadband connections, the first footage of breaking news like accidents, war events etc. often comes from private individuals, recorded with smartphones and tablets. When news agencies and broadcasters want to use this content, they must check in advance if the material is genuine and credible.
